About ISA

A Reputation 40 Years in the Making.

An old gas station building with cars parked in front, topped with a traffic signal. The sky is overcast.

In 1978, a small, two-bay VW repair shop on Boulder Street called “Volck’s World” was transformed into Import Specialty Auto, a full-service repair shop focusing on Volvo, Volkswagen, Audi, BMW, Subaru, Toyota, Lexus, Honda, Acura, Nissan, and other import vehicles. ISA technicians soon began to distinguish themselves as the premiere Volvo experts in Colorado Springs.

An auto repair shop with cars parked outside. The building is light blue, and a sign sits on top.

In the late 1980s, while continuing to specialize in Volvos, ISA became specialists in Subaru and Toyota vehicles as well. In the late 1990s, we added late-model VWs and Audis to our list of specialties. Today, Import Specialty Auto is one of the only remaining shops in Colorado Springs that truly specializes in imports. It’s all we do.

A two-story brick building with a black awning over the entrance and cars parked out front. There is a sign on the building as well.

While our building has changed a lot over the years, our mission has not. We exist to develop and maintain long-term relationships, built on mutual trust, with Colorado Springs’ import drivers.

Hands wearing gloves hold a worn timing belt in an engine bay. Black belt with teeth is being inspected for damage.
By Import Specialty Auto July 31, 2025
Your engine’s timing system plays a critical role in how your vehicle runs, and keeping it in good condition is essential for reliability and performance. Most vehicles are equipped with either a timing belt or a timing chain, both perform the same function, but they differ in materials, lifespan, and maintenance requirements. At Import Specialty Auto, we service both! Here’s what you need to know to keep your car healthy. What is a Timing Belt? The timing belt is a reinforced rubber belt that synchronizes the rotation of the engine’s crankshaft and camshaft. This ensures your engine’s valves open and close at the right time during each cylinder's intake and exhaust strokes. Timing belts are common in many Asian vehicles and require replacement at regular intervals, typically every 60,000 to 100,000 miles, depending on the make and model. If a timing belt fails, it can cause catastrophic engine damage. Be sure to check your owner’s manual to learn when your car needs this service, or give us a call and we’d be happy to inform you. What’s a Timing Chain? Some vehicles use timing chains which are made of metal and designed to last much longer, often the life of the vehicle. They’re commonly found in European engines and some newer Asian models. However, timing chains are not maintenance-free. They rely on proper lubrication, and over time they can stretch, wear out, or develop tensioner or guide issues. If you hear rattling noises from the engine, especially during startup, it may be a sign that your timing chain needs inspection or replacement. Signs of Timing Belt or Chain Trouble Other signs of timing system problems include engine misfires, rough idling, loss of power, or the check engine light turning on. If you notice any of these issues, it's important to have your vehicle inspected by an experienced technician. At Import Specialty Auto we provide professional timing belt and timing chain service in Colorado Springs for European and Asian vehicles. No matter what make and model you drive, our expert technicians will ensure your engine remains in sync and running smoothly.
